And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” ~ Luke 10:38-42
The Lord brought these verses to mind the other day. Because I needed them. In the busyness of life, I can tend to rush through some important things and allow my to-do list to become too much of a priority. Then I get stressed out. Life becomes a blur of busyness and I get myself overwhelmed.
Both Mary and Martha were busy doing good things. Hospitality, serving, and being diligent in the daily duties of life is important. But sitting at the feet of Jesus is something that we desperately need, more than anything else. We need to roll our burdens and anxieties over to Him. We need His wisdom. His strength.
It is prideful and foolish of us to think that we can get through the days just fine with little nourishment from God's Word and barely much time in prayer.

"The accomplishment of a day isn’t so much about accomplishing goals but abiding in God." ~ Ann Voskamp
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." ~ John 15:5
"It is a danger, even for those of us who love Christ, that we not become so concerned with doing things for Him that we begin to neglect hearing Him and remembering what He has done for us. Never allow your service for Christ to crowd out your worship of Him! The moment our works become more important to us than our worship, we have turned true spiritual priorities on their heads." ~ John MacArthur
As we make the Lord our ultimate priority and rest in Him, I believe our lives will ultimately be more productive, more fruit-bearing, more restful, and more Christ-honoring.
